The HP Universal Print Driver is a single, intelligent, feature-rich driver that replaces individual drivers for wide range of HP devices. The HP Universal Print Driver makes it easy to connect to HP printing devices without having to download separate, product-specific drivers. And a more streamlined imaging and printing environment means less strain on the network and easier installation of new printers and queues.
It’s anything but generic - the UPD allows organizations to use a single driver for a wide range of HP print devices, significantly decreasing IT support. But the UPD is not a generic driver – it communicates with each device to determine unique print capabilities – and then presents that to the end user. It's available in HP postscript 2 and 3 emulation, HP PCL6, and HP PCL5 print languages. It gives users access to HP LaserJet or Edgeline products while giving system administrators the tools to manage these devices more effectively.
The HP Universal Print Driver is compatible with more HP print devices than ever, including color and black-and-white printers, multifunction products (MFPs), and digital copiers. For organizations interested in pursuing cost-savings initiatives, HP’s Managed Printing Administration (MPA) software or Active Directory (AD) group policy templates can be used to provide an automated method to create a controlled and customized print environment. Assign users groups and policies that help control costs by limiting access to color printing, for example. Customize supplies notification pop ups so that only those responsible for ordering supplies receive those alerts.
